Sacred Groves

One of the most popular parts of Celtic Religion is that of the Sacred Grove. It has been captured in the grand and horrible stories of the classical authors and the romantic memories of antiquarians. Of course it would be apart of the Society's faith.

The issue with groves (Famously called Nemeton in classical Celtic languages) is that they are uniform and do not survive in the archaeological record. The average grove, from description and comparison seemed to have centered around a particularly sacred tree or other landmark.

As far as is known, this was the primary form of sacred site in Ireland. With there being a lack of any form of standard temple outside of particular examples such as the royal sites.

However, as of now atleast, this is all the information on what a grove would've looked like. *This is temporary until i return to the subject later*

There should be noted a continental tradition of not going inside a grove at midday or midnight as this is the time that the gods walk the Earth. This will be upheld by the society and any member of Senchus should vacate a temple at this time.
